Opening of the Neßmersiel summer dyke – modelling the resulting changes in wave-induced loads on the main dyke using a numerical wave model
The Institute of River and Coastal Engineering at the Hamburg University of Technology was commissioned by the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park Authority (NLPV) to carry out wave simulations to assess the changes in wave loads on the main dyke at Neßmersiel resulting from openings in the offshore summer dyke. There are plans to create several openings in the summer dyke located in the Neßmersiel area in front of the main dyke. This could affect the wave loads on the main dyke. These wave loads, which may be altered by the openings, are to be determined and assessed using a spatially high-resolution numerical simulation (SWAN). The investigations are being carried out in close cooperation with the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Protection and Nature Conservation (NLWKN), Norden branch.
