Extreme land surface temperatures (LSTs) can be identified by satellite imagery; however, land and atmospheric conditions for the onset of maximum LST have not yet been globally explored. In this paper, a physically-based analytical model was developed to quantify the extent of maximum LSTs and delineate associated land and atmospheric conditions for the onset of such extremes. The findings reveal that temperature hotspots mostly aggregate in Middle East and North Africa, with maximum temperatures exceeding 85 °C during the study period from 2005 to 2020. Peter Oppermann, a research assistant at Technical University Hamburg, had the honor of representing our institute at the recent celebrations for the Unity of Germany in Hamburg on the 2nd and 3rd of October. He shared his research about acoustic communication and power transfer in metals, which enables new structural health monitoring applications in environments shielded by metal, such as pipelines, containers, pressurized tanks, and ship hulls. The TUHH, represented by the Institutes for Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems and the Institute for Mechatronics in Mechanics, was proud to be a part of a joint booth featuring Hamburg's universities and higher education schools. The booth was organized by the Hamburg Authority for Science, Research, Equal Treatment, and Districts (BWFGB). The event was a resounding success, providing visitors with an excellent opportunity to witness the innovative research conducted at TUHH and in Hamburg in general.

Am 13. Oktober 2023 wurde der Hamburg Aviation Nachwuchspreis 2023 verliehen. TUHH Studentin Lucía Agulló Marti gewann in der Kategorie „Bachelor“ die Trophäe für ihre Abschlussarbeit zum Thema „Standortanalyse und Lärmemissionsbetrachtungen zur Befähigung einer Flotte in der innovativen luftgestützten Mobilität“.
