On 5–6 June 2025, the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) hosted the First Annual Meeting of the United Nations University (UNU) Hubs, bringing together researchers and representatives from UNU Hubs around the world.

The meeting strengthened collaboration on key topics including climate change, environmental sustainability, water resources, and development challenges in the Global South.

By fostering dialogue between academia, policymakers, and society, the event provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, the development of new partnerships, and the exploration of innovative solutions to pressing global challenges.

On 6 July 2026, the UNU Hub Engineering to Face Climate Change at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) hosted its second Meeting of the year. Researchers, faculty members, and PhD students came together to exchange research findings, discuss ongoing projects addressing climate change and sustainable development, and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration across the Hub.

A highlight of the event was the PhD Poster Competition, supported by the Polensky Foundation, which showcased innovative research by PhD students affiliated with the Hub. The poster session fostered lively scientific discussions among attendees. In recognition of the outstanding quality and impact of their research, First Prize (€1,000) was awarded to Inchara Kumaraswamy, Institute of Geo-Hydroinformatics for “Global Assessment of Saline Lake Dynamics”, while Second Prize (€500) was awarded to Davis Rakhshan, Smart Sensors Group for “AI-Enabled Acoustic Sensing for Scalable Biodiversity Monitoring under Climate Change”. We extend our sincere congratulations to the awardees and our special thanks to the members of the assessment committee for their time, expertise, and valuable contribution to the evaluation process. The UNU Hub Meeting once again highlighted the UNU Hub's commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research and supporting emerging scientists.
