The CampusLabs at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) are pioneering spaces for interdisciplinary research and collaboration, developed to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time: climate change and sustainability. Rooted in the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), these Labs are dedicated to generating tangible impact through scientific excellence, innovation, and education.
Each CampusLab is designed to foster collaboration between researchers, students, and emerging professionals, while also serving as an interface to society. Through guided outreach activities, school groups, decision-makers, and the general public gain hands-on insight into the research shaping tomorrow’s solutions.
Physically grounded in cutting-edge environments—one embedded in a high-tech facility at TUHH, the other in a rural site optimized for environmental data collection—the CampusLabs offer hybrid access with a strong emphasis on in-person experimentation and exchange. Their goal is twofold: to develop forward-looking technologies and processes for a sustainable future, and to equip the next generation of engineers with the tools and mindset to lead in a climate-resilient world.
As platforms for collaborative science, the CampusLabs bring together expertise from engineering, natural sciences, and beyond. They create the conditions for new ideas to flourish—bridging academic research, industry, and public engagement in pursuit of impactful, lasting change.
