How to participate

Step 1 – Apply to the Joint PhD Program
Complete the online registration form and submit a short statement of interest.

Step 2 – Complete UN online training
Complete at least three approved UN online courses, totaling a minimum of 20 hours.

Step 3 – Define your PhD research plan
Develop a research plan aligned with the SDGs and the thematic focus of the UNU Hub on Engineering to Face Climate Change.

Step 4 – Identify a UNU/UN co-supervisor
Together with your TUHH supervisor, identify a suitable researcher within UNU or the wider UN system for PhD co-supervision.

Step 5 – Produce a research output
Produce at least one research or policy-oriented output, such as a journal article, policy brief, or comparable output related to your PhD research.

Step 6 – Present your research
Present your PhD research at least once in a UNU- or UNU Hub-related seminar or event.

Step 7 – Include UNU/UN representation on the committee
Include at least one member affiliated with UNU-INWEH or the wider UNU/UN system on your PhD committee or advisory committee, subject to TUHH regulations.

Step 8 – Submit the completion report at the end of your studies
Submit the completion form and required documentation confirming that all program requirements have been fulfilled. The completion form will be made available toward the end of the program.

Step 9 – Receive the UNU-INWEH certificate
After verification of all requirements and completion of the TUHH doctoral degree requirements, receive the UNU-INWEH certificate in Engineering to Face Climate Change.
