Thermally Resistant 3D printable Cellular Structures through Topology Optimization

The objective of the proposed project is to derive a topology optimization approach that yields designs with high mechanical performance and high thermal insulation. A possible application of such approaches is the design of aerospace structures, which are exposed to high temperatures. Optimal designs are expected to consist of both solid and cellular areas made of the same bulk material. Such complex structures can be realized using advanced additive manufacturing techniques such as metal 3D printing.
