The CIT Lecture is named after the journal Chemie Ingenieur Technik and highlights something that has long been central to chemical engineering: the exchange between scientific research, engineering practice and scholarly communication. The connection between DECHEMA and Chemie Ingenieur Technik goes back almost a century and remains an important forum for that exchange today. This year the lecture was given by Michael Schlüter on 16 September 2026.
His work on multiphase flows, mixing, mass transfer and reactor engineering is a good example of that tradition. His research focuses on the transport processes that determine how chemical and biotechnological reactors perform, and it spans fundamental investigations as well as questions of reactor design and operation. As spokesperson of the Collaborative Research Centre SMART Reactors for the Process Engineering of the Future, he has been closely involved in advancing multiscale approaches to reactor engineering.
The DECHEMA Forum 2026 took place from 15 to 17 September 2026 at the DECHEMA Haus in Frankfurt am Main under the motto Defossilizing the Process Industry: Creating Competitive Solutions. It focused on how the process industries can reduce their dependence on fossil resources while remaining competitive. The discussions showed that there is no shortage of promising ideas, and that the real challenge lies in translating concepts into technologies that can be implemented at industrial scale.
