Professor Zavrel gave an inspiring lecture on “Model-Based Bioprocess Design for a Sustainable Bioeconomy”, explaining how model-based methods can be used to design, optimise and scale up robust bioprocesses for a sustainable circular bioeconomy.

We were delighted to welcome Professor Dr. Michael Zavrel from the Technical University of Munich at the Hamburg University of Technology to our CRC seminar at the Hamburg University of Technology. In his talk on model-based bioprocess design, Professor Zavrel emphasised that next-generation bioprocesses require robust, efficient and sustainable model-based approaches in order to understand, optimize, and scale biotechnological systems across diverse feedstocks. This promotes the circular economy, improving both resource utilisation and product quality.

During his visit, we had the opportunity to present our research activities and laboratory facilities, exchange ideas on smart bioprocess design and explore the potential for future collaboration.
