International Symposium on SMART Reactors
31 May – 1 June 2027, Hamburg Germany
The transition from fossil to renewable raw materials poses a fundamental challenge for chemical and biochemical process engineering: bio-based feedstocks vary in availability and quality by season and region, so future processes must adapt to these fluctuations. SMART Reactors address this by converting Sustainable resources with Multipurpose and Autonomous reactors, yielding Resilient processes that are Transferable across scales and locations.
The International Symposium on SMART Reactors brings together researchers from process engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics, electrical engineering, mathematics and data science to discuss the scientific foundations of self-adapting reactors. Topics include:
- stimuli-responsive materials, reactive catalytic surfaces and self-regulating reactor components
- in situ sensing and process imaging of pressure, temperature, concentration and dispersed phases
- multiphase flows, local transport phenomena and thermodynamics under fluctuating process conditions
- experimentally validated modelling and simulation of reactive multiphase systems
- integration, scale-up and autonomous operation of SMART reactor prototypes
- real-time data processing, research data management and digital methods for intelligent process systems
The two-day programme features invited and contributed talks as well as poster sessions, offering ample opportunity for discussion and exchange between early-career and established researchers from academia and industry.
