Katell Gélébart

Katells journey began in her student years as an environmental activist in the fight against nuclear power and deforestation however her commitment to recycling goes back to her childhood when she learned from her family how to reuse almost everything. Katell explains how her enthusiasm for recycling developed in the TEDx Talk ‘Trash is The Gold of Tomorrow’.

In her shop ‘ART D’ECO & DESIGN’ in Amsterdam (http://www.artdecodesign.typepad.com), she promotes her brand and runs workshops on ecodesign.

Katell’s mission to share of her knowledge and expertise in ecodesign, sustainable creativity, recycling in design and fashion, has taken her to countries as far and divers as the Ukraine, India, Nepal and New Zealand where she has worked with local entrepeneurs and academic institutions, especially in the fashion field.

At the base of Katell’s work is a deep awareness for environmental concerns and the wish to help communities find suitable solutions combining waste as a resource and the skills of the jobless, who are often women.

Through her hands-on workshops people learn to source the material, explore the potential in waste and make objects with the craft techniques and low tech means she teaches.
