The model of production control links the tasks of production control with the logistic objectives of production. The model provides a systematic framework for analysing and designing production planning and control.
Throughput diagram
A throughput diagram shows the work of a work system or production over time. Key parameters and models for production planning and control can be derived from the throughput diagram.
Delivery reliability and delivery compliance
A key logistical parameter, especially for make-to-order companies, is delivery reliability or delivery compliance. The IPMT has been working for some time on the development and application of models and processes aimed at improving delivery reliability in the long term.
Logistic Operating Curves for Production
Logistic Operating Curves show the relationship between output rate, work in process and throughput time in a production system. They illustrate how changes in work in process affect output rate and serve as a basis for evaluating and improving operational production planning and control.
Production Planning and Control
The IPMT investigates the fundamental interrelationships between the logistic objectives of output rate, work in process, throughput time and schedule reliability, and the factors that influence them. The modelling of schedule reliability and characteristic curves for the basic types of parts flow in companies currently form the focus of the work.
These models are the basis for developing procedures with which companies can effectively control the logistic objectives.
