OptiPro - Optimized post-processing of structurally optimized lightweight components within a hybrid process chain

Objective

The metal Additive Manufacturing market is growing currently at a very fast pace. The subtractive post-processing of high-precision functional surfaces is mandatory. In the aerospace, automotive and medical technology sectors, there is a growing demand for structurally optimised lightweight components that have low masses with high mechanical strength and that can be integrated into complex assemblies through highly precise functional elements.

Due to the fundamentally different approach, the compatibility of the planning processes for additive manufacturing and subtractive finishing is low. Both planning processes require specific expert knowledge. Early networking of the different departments or companies is therefore particularly important, but often poses a major challenge.

The aim of this R&D cooperation project is therefore to increase the effectiveness of the process combination by systematically taking into account the restrictions of the subtractive set-up process already at the time of additive process planning and, if necessary, by adapting the design of the additive manufacturing part.
