Biography

In 2014, Daniel Plöger received the Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) for the thesis on the topic "Design and Evaluation of a Guideline for Web Application Security Audits". The thesis was written at the institute Security in Distributed Applications (SVA), supervised by Prof. Dr. Dieter Gollmann and Roland Schilling and in cooperation with mgm technology part­ners GmbH. In 2017, he graduated in the consecutive Master’s degree Computer Science and Engineering from TUHH with the thesis on the topic “Robust Communication for Control of Robotic Vehicle Platooning”. The Master’s thesis was written under supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Timm-Giel from the Institute of Communication Networks (ComNets) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Kreutzfeldt from the Institute of Technical Logistics (ITL).

Since 2017 he is a research associate at the Institute of Communication Network, TUHH. The main focus of work is on the reliability demands of communication networks used for networked control systems, in particular autonomous vehicular platooning. Daniel Plöger is investigating the impact of network impairment in terms of delay, loss, and jitter on the reliability of such systems. With this information at hand, he determines appropriate measures for the control system to mitigate negative effects of the impairment.

A large part of this research includes understanding the properties of network impairments, its correlation and its likeliness for varying wireless communication systems. This knowledge, in addition, is both expanded and used in the second major project he is working on: research on and development of ultra-resilient, retrofittable wireless sensor networks for use in commercial aircraft. This is a German Ministry of Economics funded project in cooperation with Lufthansa Technik, the ZAL Center of Applied Aeronautical Research, et al.

Additionally he was or currently is involved in teaching of the university courses of Computer Networks and Internet Security (Bachelor's degree), Analysis and Structure of Communication Networks, and Simulation and Modeling of Communication Networks (both Master's degree), and in supervising in the European Commission funded Erasmus+ strategic partnership project "Improving Employability Through Internationalization and Collaboration" (EPIC) between industry and academia.
