In the IntAirNet project, the existing LDACS datalink will be extended beyond ground station coverage so that infrastructure-less communication is possible. This includes operating and safety aspects, the reliability of communication over the extended LDACS datalink, the potential performance gains from multihop communication and the integration of systems in the avionics architecture to be considered for commercial aviation.
The performance of the IntAirNet system is analytically modeled using signal flow graphs. Additionally, the OMNeT++ simulation tool is used to evaluate the network performance using real mobility and application scenarios. The project is concluded by building the actual hardware and demonstrating the system in operation.
