Abstract: Abstract? This paper presents the concept of a communication service module automatically selecting the most appropriate communication service and configuring the respective networking devices, drivers, and protocols. The concept was developed in the framework of the wearIT@work project fostering wearable computing in different business application fields. The main idea is to free the user and the application developer from configuring the complex communication devices and protocols and having him to specify his requirements by selecting a profile only. This enables easy improvement of the communication services and protocols without having to change the applications or user interfaces. The paper describes the concept and the first implementation on different wearable computing platforms in detail. An application scenario illustrates the benefits of the approach. Finally an outlook is given also opening the concept and its benefit for different other application fields.
