EcoKutter – Shaping tomorrow’s fishery

Dr. Daniel Stepputtis, head of Fisheries and Survey technology working group at Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries, will speak on the topic of “EcoKutter – Shaping tomorrow’s fishery”.

Germany’s small-scale coastal fishing fleet is facing a structural challenge: Many vessels are more than 40 years old and difficult to upgrade to today’s operational, environmental and safety requirements. Modernizing the fleet involves addressing several key challenges, including low-emission propulsion, flexible deck arrangements and improved safety, food quality as well as animal welfare. This presentation provides an introduction to the idea of engineering two multifunctional fishing vessels for the North and Baltic Sea. Holistic ship design and technological innovation aim to contribute to an economically resilient, and socially responsible foundation for the sustainable coastal fishery.
