Abstract: This document gives detailed information about the integration of different kinds of simulation in the planning process of maritime logistics systems. It demonstrates recent developments in maritime logistics and the consequential need for simulation in the optimization and planning of logistics systems. It introduces the different phases in planning processes and identifies adequate times for using simulation tools. Furthermore, different kinds of simulation and their uses are introduced. Afterwards, the document gives specific information about the method of meta-modelling and its possible integration with other kinds of simulation. The meta-model is used to automatically create a simulation after giving its specifications. Due to this neither the personnel skills nor the time available to build the simulation model represent significant hurdles in the planning process
