Teaching at the Institute for Continuum and Material Mechanics

 

The aim of continuum mechanics is understanding and calculating how mechanical bodies deform and when they fail under mechanical loading. It is an important foundation of various areas of modern engineering. Practical applications range from civil, environmental, mechanical, and automotive engineering to shipbuilding and aerospace engineering as well as, more recently, medicine.

The Institute for Continuum and Material Mechanics guides the students in a series of lectures from the basics of mechanics to the current state of research in continuum mechanics. Particular attention is always paid to the mathematical modeling of materials and their mechanical behavior, which is essential for reliable computational predictions.

In addition to lectures, we offer a variety of student projects, bachelor and master theses. These allow students deepening their understanding of mechanical by participating in exciting research projects.
