Final demonstration of the FPOPlus project

We are excited to share the successful demonstration of the FPOPlus project at Gleishalle Oberhafen in Hamburg on April 20.

FPOPlus showcases the integration of real infrastructure and simulation within a digital twin, combined with intelligent forecasting models for predictive control of passenger flows in train stations. The goal is to improve the utilisation of local and regional trains, making mobility faster, more efficient, and less stressful.

We were honored to have State Secretary Thomas Jarzombek (Federal Ministry of Digitalization and State Modernization, BMDS) attend and observe our demonstrations.

Compared to our other research projects, FPOPlus also gave us a chance to stay physically active alongside our research work. Special thanks to Daniel Plöger and Aliyu Makama for their contributions across hands-on research, installation, operations, and evaluation of 5G campus networks and UWB-based passenger tracking.

It was great to see a fully functional prototype deployed in a real-world setting at the historic Gleishalle Oberhafen.

This work is the result of a strong collaboration with IHF institute, HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU), University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU), Breuer Nachrichtentechnik GmbH, and Deutsche Bahn.
