2nd UNU Hub Meeting

On 3rd November, the second meeting of all members of the UNU Hub Engineering to Face Climate Change took place at Hamburg University of Technology It is amazing to see how our Hub develops, grows, and becomes truly international.

Both the CampusLab Circular Economy and the CampusLab on Global Soil Health Water, and Climate are already in operation and active in the scientific field, in teaching activities for internal and external guests, along with the concept of TUHH “Humboldt principle 4.0: Holistic Combination of Research, Teaching, Transfer, and Science Communication”. We are looking forward to extending this concept further in cooperation with our international partners.

Our new research cluster “Environmental Sensing and Deployment Platforms” led by Prof. Thorsten Kern is starting a new junior research group soon, supporting the TUHH and hub activities in sensor technologies.

Furthermore, 30 PhD students of TUHH presented their recent scientific work in form of posters.

We are happy to announce the winners of the Best Poster Awards, Melissa Walter (Institute of Polymers and Composites (IPC) and Alexander Hofmann (CREM - Institute of Circular Resource Engineering and Management) won the price money of 1000 € and 500 € respectively. The winners were presented the award by Christian Polensky, representative of the Gustav Polensky Stiftung, which provided the generous price money.

Both directors of the Hub, Prof. Nima Shokri and Prof. Irina Smirnova, express their sincere gratitude to the Gustav Polensky Stiftung for establishing this award for our young scientists!

We had a great time exchanging ideas and connecting with all new members of the UNU Hubs. We are grateful for the support of TUHH and the Behörde für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Gleichstellung in the frame of the second growth phase of TUHH as well as to our partner institute The United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH).
