OSCM in Sicily : Life Cycle Management Conference 2025

Where mediterranean feeling meets sustainability

From September 9 to 12, 2025, the international Life Cycle Management (LCM) Conference took place in Palermo, Italy. More than 1,000 participants meet every two years at the LCM to exchange ideas on sustainability, circular economy, and life cycle assessment.

Our team was represented on site by Francisco Encina and Jan Feitkenhauer, who presented their research at the conference with poster presentations and a lecture. The topics of the contributions revolve around the consideration of “sustainability of critical raw materials for the energy transition with reference to social and ecological aspects” and the “influences of photovoltaics on planetary boundaries.” In his work, Francisco highlights the relevance of indicators and categories of the most important raw materials needed for a successful energy transition with the help of a multifocal literature review. Jan combines LCA methodology with absolute limits to illustrate the actual impact of energy production on the planet.

We are delighted to be part of this inspiring community and are taking home many new ideas and contacts. A big thank you to the organizers of LCM 2025 for a thoroughly successful event!
