Training Day Content & Lecturers
The training day is structured into two parts:
- Theory and Application on SPH (09:00-12:30)
The morning session will consists of an introduction to SPH with emphasis on interpolation and on differential operator approximations. Moreover, a lecture on the application of SPH to solids and structures based upon a total lagrangian formalism will be given.
- Simulation and Postprocessing (13:30-17:00)
The afternoon session will be devoted to visualization and analysis of SPH data using the ParaView and pv-meshless packages. Topics will be demonstrated based upon practical examples in the open-source SPH solver SPHysics. Users will be introduced to the effects of different schemes in the SPH numerical method which can include choice of kernel, error and convergence, boundary conditions and formulation enhancements.
Prof. Stefano Sibilla from the Univ. of Pavia will provide an introduction to SPH methods and Prof. Rade Vignjevic from Cranfield Univ. will subsequently outline the use of SPH for solids and structures. The practical session in the afternoon will be given by Dr. Ben Rogers (Manchester Univ.), Dr. John Biddiscombe (Univ. Lausanne) and Dr. Alex Crespo (Vigo Univ.).
All software and data sets will be made available for participants in a PC class room. Related material can soon be downloaded prior to the training day from here.
Training Day Location
The location of the training day is the main campus of the Hamburg Univ. of Technology (TUHH) in Hamburg-Harburg. The morning session will be held in Building "i, DE22", Denickestrasse 22. The afternoon session takes place in Building "L - DE17" room "3038P1". Travel information can be found here.
