Visit of student group from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC)

A group of students from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) visited our institute and University for one week at the end of May, 2016. They gained rich experiences in the studies and lives of German university students as well as German culture. UESTC is located in Chengdu, which is the capital of the Sichuan province in Southwest China. It belongs to China's leading universities for higher education in electronic and information science and technology. In the most recent official ranking by the Ministry of Education, UESTC was ranked the 5th among the 39 "Project 985" universities. Project 985 is a kind of elite university program in China.

The visit began with an introduction by Dr. Rainer Grünheid about the study courses offered by our institute and the campus of TUHH. After the welcome meeting the students took part in the lectures and tutorials of our institute, gained insight into German-style teaching. The students were impressed by the presentation material, the active atmosphere in the classrooms, the use of 'clickers' as well as by the self-learning requirements and opportunities.

On the second and third day, a campus tour as well as  two lab courses on "ultrasonic data transmission" and "digital data transmission" were offered to the students.

In addition to participation in courses, the students had opportunities to communicate with German students and teachers offline. They learned that the life of German students is not restricted to lectures, books and library only. The extracurricular activities like concerts and performances help the students to learn in a relaxed environment and with an open mind.

The second part of the visit was devoted to excursions to German industry, such as the Hamburg port and Airbus The visit ended with some sightseeing in the beautiful city of Hamburg including the inspiring Miniature Wonderland. We are looking forward to further cooperation between UESTC and TUHH.
