SCC 2015 in Hamburg

From February 2nd to February 5th, 2015, the 10th International Conference on Systems, Communications and Coding (SCC 2015) took place in Hamburg, Germany. The SCC is a bi-annual event, which is organized by the Information Technology Society (ITG) of VDE, in technical co-sponsorship of the IEEE. The conference covers a broad scope of different wired and wireless communication technologies. This year, it was hosted by Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and organized by the team of the Institute of Communications, led by the general conference chair Prof. Gerhard Bauch. More than 100 participants from 13 different countries had convened to attend the tutorials and technical sessions.

The SCC aims at bridging the gap between theory and applications by bringing together people from both academia and industry. Another goal is to foster interdisciplinary contacts between the different fields of communication technology. In view of these objectives, the attendees were offered a comprehensive program with a wide range of topics, including wireless systems of 5G and beyond, fiber optics, visible light communications, satellite transmission, car-to-car communi-cations, as well as sensor and self-organizing networks. A special emphasis was placed on aspects of information theory and coding, secure communication, signal processing, and transmission technologies. In total, 40 oral presentations were given, among them several invited talks from outstanding scientists. Additionally, three tutorials were held by internationally renowned experts at the beginning of the conference. The 12 oral sessions were supplemented by six poster sessions, which provided sufficient time for an in-depth scientific discussion.

Clearly, the SCC would not be complete without a social event. This year, the technical program was complemented by an evening aboard the historic sailing ship “Rickmer Rickmers” located in the port of Hamburg. Here, the guests could enjoy the maritime atmosphere, visit the ship’s museum, listen to a guide’s introduction about the history of the bark – and later taste the delicious food from the dinner buffet
