The sensor box prototype is complete. In addition to the technical specifications, the development team focused on maintaining as much flexibility as possible: Depending on the location and use case, the boxes should be installable in various ways across the campus.
With the prototype now complete, the next question takes center stage: How do individual sensor boxes become a campus-wide sensor network? This initially involves very practical questions. Where can the boxes be installed in a technically sound manner? Which locations on campus are suitable? What conditions must be taken into account during installation?
At the same time, however, the project involves much more than the positioning of individual sensors. The goal is to create a live system for research and teaching. The planned sensor network is intended to continuously provide measurement data from the campus. This data can be just as valuable for research questions as it is for courses and student projects. But the network is not only meant to produce data for research and teaching—it is meant to become a subject of research and teaching in its own right.
