BlueMat aims to develop nature-inspired, sustainable, and interactive material systems that unfold their unique functionality in water or aqueous environments, or that derive their properties directly from nature’s most powerful resource — water. 

Through the targeted use of water, materials can reversibly change their characteristics — such as storing and generating energy, adjusting light transmission and color, or altering mechanical flexibility. The research will pave the way for innovative and environmentally friendly applications.
