Project Description:

Description of the company
Airbus is an international pioneer in the aerospace industry. We are a leader in designing, manufacturing and delivering aerospace products, services and solutions to customers on a global scale. We aim for a better-connected, safer and more prosperous world.

Situation
The world wide logistic system is based upon the utilization of standard ISO 8ft containers. Today the world wide intermodal transport system is based around the transportation of ISO 8ft containers. This intermodal system includes ship, rail and road transport with little interaction with the air transport logistics system.

Problem
Currently when goods are transferred from ship/road/rail to air they must be repacked into aircraft containers. There are limited cases where some 8ft containers can be loaded onto aircraft but this is limited and not optimal. As most commercial freighter aircraft are variants of passenger aircraft the cross-section is optimized for passenger transportation.

Aims of the project
Develop a concept aircraft that can transport 4 TEUs and their attachment to the aircraft.

Scopes
Develop a concept aircraft for the transportation of 4 TEUs in an unpressurised fuselage.

  1. Overall layout of the aircraft
  2. Fuselage cross-section
  3. CLS system concept including latching

Target group (students)
Students with an engineering background
