I3 Program🔗

The I³ programme is a key component of the TUHH’s growth. I³ (pronounced ‘eye-cube’) stands for ‘Interdisciplinarity and Innovation in Engineering’. The aim of this programme is to identify new interdisciplinary projects and to support them through internal seed funding to the extent that the projects can subsequently secure external funding, whether from the DFG, the EU or in the form of federal funding. Ideally, this will also enable the early identification of emerging seeds for future research priorities at the TUHH. The I³ programme is competitive in nature and is divided into three streams with different framework conditions.

  • I³-Labs fund projects led by four experienced researchers for four years, each with one research post plus equipment funding. Afterwards, the project partners should be in a position to apply for, for example, a DFG research group, and ultimately become a new scientific pillar of the TUHH.
  • I³-Projects fund projects led by two researchers for two years, providing one research post for each researcher plus equipment funding. Following this, a follow-up application as an I³-Lab or the acquisition of external funding is conceivable.
  • I³-Junior Projects are aimed at early-career researchers, who receive funding for one year in the form of equipment funding.
