Abstract: For the safe operation of a ship in seaways it is important to understand its dynamic behaviour. Two values are of particular importance. The natural roll period of the ship and the location of the axis of rotation. With the intention to examine the axis of rotation and the natural roll period in real conditions, full scale measurements have been carried out using a set of two mobile InertialMeasurement-Units. Based on the measurements, the average location of the roll-axis and the rollfrequency are determined. The results are compared with numerical calculations
