Since the last shutdown due to severe privilege escalation vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel, the Lustre storage system under /work has been available only on a limited basis on the AlmaLinux 9 nodes.

We are still waiting for an official Lustre update for Red Hat 9.8 and 10.2, and in the meantime, we are building the software ourselves.

Restrictions imposed on certain parts of the cluster as part of this process may be lifted.

With this caveat in mind, we are pleased to announce that the services are now fully available again.

Unfortunately, we must discontinue the WebVPN service as of August 31, 2026, because the manufacturer has discontinued support for this feature.

WebVPN allows users to access internal websites via a web browser without having to launch a VPN client.

We ask the few users of this service to use the VPN Client instead.

Due to another severe privilege escalation vulnerability in the Linux kernel, parts of the high-performance cluster are unavailable.

We are shutting down all machines running AlmaLinux 9. As a result, many CPU nodes and all GPU nodes will be temporarily unavailable.

As soon as a patch is available and has been applied, we will restore service.

Update as of July 08, 2026: Kernel-Updates for AlmaLinux are ready for testing. However, we also need an overdue Lustre update to version 2.15.9.
Update as of July 09, 2026: Another security vulnerability now also affects the remaining AlmaLinux 8 machines. A kernel update is already available for testing and will be deployed shortly.
Update as of July 20, 2026: All login- and compute-nodes are available again.

Several service have just been taken offline due to a severe security issue. As of writing this, we are working the problem, yet we are are waiting for security patches to become available for the affected systems.

We will post on this channel, as there are updates on this topic.
