Apple MacOS - VPN profile

Summary

The native VPN client can be used on system version OS X 10.8 and newer. To do so, install the VPN profile:
  • OS X 10.8 and newer: TUHH VPN profile
  • Open this file and press the button "apply". Please enter your account data and press "apply" again. Now you can start the VPN-connection with the symbol in the titlebar icon.

Installation of the VPN profile

A preconfigured VPN profile is available for all Mac OS X versions from version 10.8.

  • Download the latest VPN profile here: TUHH VPN Profil
    At the TUHH you can use the VPN/WEB network to download the configuration profile.
    Close the Apple Captive Network Assistant window at the bottom right with Cancel, open the Safari web browser and go via the WebVPN https://webvpn.rz.tuhh.de/ and VPN Service on this webpage.
    Sometimes the profile is displayed as cryptic plaintext and is not downloading.

  • Open the profile. It should start the profile installation via the system settings
  • Our profile is digitally signed and should not cause any errors. Click on Continue
  • Enter your TUHH RZT credentials and click on Install
  • You may be asked for your local password to store the profile on your device
  • Go back to System Settings and select Network
  • Select the TUHH-VPN profile and activate Show VPN status in menu bar

Establish a VPN connection

If the VPN profile was successfully installed, you can now establish a VPN connection:
  • Click on the VPN icon icon in the menu bar
  • The first entry is Connect to "TUHH-VPN". Click on it
  • If you have been authenticated as a TUHH user, you will receive a welcome message, which you can close with OK
  • Depending on whether you are at the TUHH or connecting from somewhere else, the following is applicaple:
    • internal: At our VPN sockets and our notebook workspaces the VPN Client is used for authentication and in the TUHH Wi-Fi (VPN/WEB) also for additional security of the connection.
    • external: All the connections of your computer are now redirected into the TUHH over an encrypted VPN tunnel. Your PC will appear in the internet with an IP of the TUHH.
If problems occur, run the profile installation above again to overwrite the old profile. Please pay special attention to your password. In case of login problems the USC personally or the ServiceDesk by e-mail will help you.

Disconnect from VPN

In the same way as connecting, you can terminate the connection again:
  • Click on the VPN icon icon in the menu bar
  • The first entry is Disconnect connection to "TUHH-VPN". Click on it

Uninstallation of the VPN profile

The deinstallation is done with only a few clicks via the System Preferences:
  • Open te System Preferences and click on Profiles
  • Select the TUHH-VPN profile
  • This profile can be removed via the - button at the bottom left
  • You may be asked for your local password to remove the profile from your device

Questions/Support

Please make sure that your device has the latest patches installed, that you are not using more than one anti-virus program and that no "unblocker" is active.
(Unblocker are programs which can unlock content, that is blocked in one country, but not another.)
