PMD-compensation in a 10 Gbit/s NRZ field experiment using polarimetric error signal

Abstract: To compensate the polarization mode dispersion of a 10 Gbit/s NRZ installed fiber link (45km, 80ps mean DGD), we employ a variable polarization delay line and a set of polarization controllers. With a frequency-resolving Stokes-polarimeter we monitor the variation of the output polarization with frequency over the signal bandwidth. A control loop minimizes the RMS deviation of the polarization state at the receiver.
