Our Institute conducts world-class research on fluid dynamics in engineering and their environmental applications as well as naval architecture and theory. This site provides students, researchers, industry partners and other interested parties with information on all aspects of our Institute's activities. It is organised into three main sections:
- Education - these pages provide information on our study programmes, including in-depth descriptions of courses on offer, a comprehensive list of students theses and projects, and our colloquium schedule.
- Research - this section details our research projects in the fields of Aerospace Engineering, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Hydrodynamics and Ship Theory, and Maritime and Ocean Engineering, and it provides an extensive bibliography of our research outputs in the form of publications and theses.
- Institute - here you will find descriptions on our state-of-the-art test facilities as well as the contact details and research specialities of our scientific staff.
The Institute for Fluid Dynamics and Ship Theory (FDS) also hosts the following projects and their associated websites:
- panMARE – our in-house panel code, panMARE, is a command-driven programme and potential-based solver for all kinds of flow simulations, but with a special focus on marine applications. It has been developed in cooperation with leading propulsor manufacturers and ship yards in order to meet the requirements of the marine industry.
- elbe – a highly efficient academic flow solver for the simulation of non-linear three-dimensional flow problems, elbe has been developed since late 2010, with external partners and contributors at University of Rhode Island and TU Braunschweig.
- FreSCo+ – a viscous hydrodynamic simulation tool which features both industrial applicability (i.e. robustness and process compliance) and accuracy. FreSCo+ is jointly developed and used by TUHH, the Hamburg Ship Model Bassin (HSVA) and the Dutch Maritime Research Institute (MARIN).
- The Weinblum Memorial and George Weinblum Foundations – a website devoted to Georg Weinblum (* 1897; † 1974), the engineer, ship theorist and teacher of great renown, as well the foundations bearing his name in remembrance.
