Controlling the drying-induced peeling of colloidal films

Our new work on drying-induced peeling of colloidal films has been featured on the cover of Soft Matter! We investigated the effect of the suspension properties on the drying dynamics and the resulting film peeling instability. We developed a physically-based analytical equation capable of predicting the characteristics of drying induced peeling of films. The developed model was verified by a comprehensive series of microscopic experiments using drops of aqueous mixtures of colloidal silica dispersions and polyethylene oxide (PEO) additives. This knowledge is useful in a variety of applications including inkjet printing and coating technologies. More details about this work can be found at:
