Services and Applications (O8)

Purpose

This module gives the student an introduction to special issues and trends in Internet services and applications.

Prerequisites

To follow the introductory part, no previous knowledge in the field is needed. To follow the module at basic or advanced levels, a basic knowledge of the structure and usage of computer systems is needed.

Learning objectives

Students who complete the module at the introductory level will have an overview of the field of services and applications and their impact.
Students who complete the module at the basic level will additionally obtain:

  • Knowledge of issues, architecture, technologies and impact concerning “trends in Internet usage”.
  • Knowledge of issues, architecture, technologies and impact concerning “the Internet of things”.
  • Knowledge of issues, technologies and impact concerning “design processes”.
  • Knowledge of issues and impact concerning “the creation and pricing of services”.
  • Knowledge of how to apply the taught concepts for solving real life problems.

Students who complete the module at the advanced level will additionally obtain:

  • Skills to analyse these issues, and be able to understand how they can be applied in businesses and organizations

Introduction level will provide an overview as indicated on the three main issues.
The basic level will present more details on how technology, methods, and data is utilised.
The advanced level will provide cases and discussion on how these technologies/topics may be developed and applied in business and organizations.

Pre-module material provided

For students without prior knowledge of computer networks, material will be available that gives sufficient introduction to enable them to follow the module at basic and advanced levels.

Additional material provided

Additional material will be provided in terms of examples.
