Reregistering, taking a sabbatical semester and change of course of studies

Notes for reregistration

Reregistration involves paying the necessary contribution and fees. The periods specified for reregistration are:

  • summer semester: February 1 - March 15
  • winter semester: August 1 - September 15.

The deadline for reregistration for the winter semester 2017 has expired. Delayed reregistration is possible up to October 4, 2017. Therefor an additional fee has to be paid. Information can be found below.

Reregistration for the winter semester 2017/2018

Reregistration involves paying your semester contribution on time (!). It means that the contribution must be credited to the TUHH's bank account by the reregistration deadline at the latest.

NB: This deadline and also the sum of the semester contribution do not apply to students registering for the first time at the TUHH. They only need to pay once they have received the paying-in form.

Click here to find out what the current semester contribution is. And please note the new bank details of TUHH. Please use them for paying the semester contribution.

The best way to pay is to use an online banking facility. In any case the following information must be included:

Payee: TUHH
Bank: Deutsche Bundesbank
IBAN: DE96 2000 0000 0020 1015 12
BIC: MARKDEF1200
Reference: Immatriculation No.-24
The "24" enables the allocation to the winter term 2017/2018.

The address of "Deutsche Bundesbank" is: Willy-Brandt-Straße 73, Postfach 57 03 48, 22772 Hamburg, Germany.

For payments from abroad: If you transfer the money from another country please make sure that the extra transfer fees are covered!

And please note: If you do not reregister you may be exmatriculated.

Delayed Reregistration

In case you missed the reregistration deadline, an additional fee of 30 € has to be paid (according to the "Satzung über die Erhebung von Gebühren an der Technischen Universität Hamburg-Harburg"). The 30 € have to be paid to:

Payee: TUHH
Bank: Deutsche Bundesbank
IBAN: DE05 2000 0000 0020 1015 01
BIC: MARKDEF1200
Reference: your immatriculation number - 24 - "verspaetete RM".

The address of "Deutsche Bundesbank" is: Willy-Brandt-Straße 73, Postfach 57 03 48, 22772 Hamburg, Germany.

Payment of the additional fee (30 EUR) by EC-card at the admissions office is also possible. You will receive your semester documents after the fee (and the semester contribution, too) was credited to this bank account.

Please also note: Delayed reregistration is possible up to an appointed date (usually within the first 4 weeks after the semester is started) that will be posted to all students via e-mail. TUHH is not bound to accept payments after the appointed date. Payments after the deadline and non-payments may cause a deregistration by TUHH.

Taking a Sabbatical Semester

If you are either unable or unwilling to attend lectures in the next semester, you may take time out from your studies. The maximum number of sabbatical semesters is two (one during Bachelors studies and one during Masters studies). The application form for a sabbatical could be found here (PDF). But first apply for the sabbatical and then remit the semester fee! Remit the semester fee in any case. If we have to refuse your application we will get in contact with you immediately.

Please keep in mind that there is no automatical registration for exams during sabbatical semesters. If you would like to pass exams during your sabbatical semester you have to make a registration at the Self Service Functions.

Even during a sabbatical you must continue to pay the semester fee. Please bear in mind that no financial support through BAföG will be given during a sabbatical. For further information please contact Studierendenwerk Hamburg. Other cash benefits can be regarded by a sabbatical semester, too. Please contact the responsible authority.

Change of course of studies

If you are planning to change your course of studies please get in contact with the admissions office as soon as possible. Some information can also be found in the FAQs or here (for Bachelor's programs).

Enrollment Regulations and Student Status

In the Hamburg University of Technology´s Study Regulations the procedures of enrollment, re-registration, leave of absence and removal from the student register are fixed.
