TELC: Test system for ten different European languages

- English – German – Turkish – Spanish – French – Italian– Portuguese – Russian – Czech – Arabic

Telc stands for “The European Language Certificates”. But it is not only a shortcut but above all a programme. Under the brand “telc” the telc GmbH, a subsidiary of the German Volkshochschulverband e. V. with central headquarters in Frankfurt, has developed more than 50 exams in ten European languages. Guideline is the Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CERF) of 2001 which has been developed on the initiative of the European Council aiming at the promotion of multilingualism in Europe to improve cross-border mobility, also on the labour market.

The telc certificate is nationwide acknowledged as prerequisite for admission to English language programmes at several universities. This also applies to the TUHH .

The JLPT places importance not only on a learner's (1) knowledge of the Japanese language including vocabulary and grammar but also on their (2) competence at using the knowledge in practical communication. The test measures the knowledge described in (1) above through a section called "language knowledge (vocabulary/grammar)" and the competence described in (2) above through two sections called "reading" and "Listening." By using these sections in combination, the new test comprehensively measures Japanese communicative competence.

The JLPT is offered in five levels (N1, N2, N3, N4, N5). Test items differ by level in order to closely measure one's Japanese proficiency.
