Electrical Engineering Offers Opportunities

Electrical engineering is a key technology for economic and societal development. It is an area in which demand for well-trained young professionals is constantly increasing. Meeting this demand is an important prerequisite for economic progress and international competitiveness. Areas of production such as communications engineering, measurement and control technology, microwave technology (high-frequency technology), optics, nanoelectronics (or microelectronics), and microsystems and energy technology are driving forces of technical progress.

The German electrical industry owes its strong position in exporting electrical products in particular to the implementation of new microelectronic technologies. Examples include medical applications (magnetic resonance scanners), fuel cell applications in microsystems technology, radar technology for vehicles, or the development of communications engineering in, say, mobile telephony.

The aim of the B.Sc. course in electrical engineering is to teach the theoretical and practical fundamentals of the subject along with the requisite methodical competence. That includes comprehensive and soundly based mathematical and physical training. Widespread technical expertise is also required, as are the skills that are needed for scientific work. The skills that have been acquired are intensified by being applied to specific uses in the B.Sc. thesis.

The “mytrack” Study Model

From the 2014/15 Winter Semester the TUHH offers students working toward a B.Sc. in electrical engineering an alternative study route. The “mytrack” study model enables them to deal intensively with the contents of the program and the practical, career-related implementation of what they have learned in tutorials and project work, including in cooperation with industry partners. Before Studying

Career-related Placement

Students are required to serve a ten-week career-related placement. The best time to do so is before starting their studies. We urgently recommend you to do so. Practical work may be divided into several sections or different companies. Placements/internships count as education in the tertiary sector and qualify for BAföG student loans. Please read the Internship Regulations before taking up your internship. You will find them here.
