Abstract: This paper presents an approach of a software framework to support software developing engineers by handling procedural software. The framework offers practical assistance for separating the control flow from the numerical functionality. Especially by long-lived and growing software tools, it allows to implement a flexible and clear documentable workflow, based on a configurable state machine. A rudder design tool illustrates the approach. This tool has been continuously developed over years with several changes of the responsible engineer.
