The Ministry of Transport describes the MKS (Mobility and Fuel Strategy) as "the central instrument for shaping the energy system transformation in transport". Within the framework of the scientific monitoring, different propulsion and fuel options for the transport sectors road, air, ship and rail are considered and possibilities are shown how greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced. Technical, economic and ecological aspects are taken into account and compiled into an overall picture. The basis is provided by the goals of the climate protection plan, which envisage a reduction of 40 - 42 % of greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2030. The scientific accompaniment provides information and orientation for political decisions.

Within the framework of MKS main tasks of the IUE are:

  • Accompanying the “Nationale Platform Zukunft der Mobilität” (AG1 and AG2), in particular on biofuels and electricity fuels
  • Ad hoc counselling of the BMVI regarding issues of mobility as well as alternative fuels
